CURATED CAUSALITY

A SANCTUARY OF WATER & LIGHT

This thesis project is an exercise in causality, the study of an initial intervention and the consequential chain of events. A fascination with images upon water surfaces and reflected light has encouraged an initial intervention that simulates the effect of fallen trees along the brook. The damn obstructs the flow of water and eventually generate ponds. The ponds flood part of the surrounding area, as such trees are removed resulting in an opening in the forest canopy whereby direct sunlight is permitted. Sunlight unfiltered by the tree canopy reflects upon the surface of the water and is redirected into the forest. The final proposal takes the shape of a canopy within the woodland in the form of the reflected sunlight volume and captures the light, rendering sunlight visible to inhabitants.
