THE HOST

A LOCAL ADAPTATION

The following ‘Host’ structure is a prototype built and designed to test the short, square profile, timber members and the principals of 'Constructed Analysis'. ‘Constructed Analysis’ is a process of 1:1 making that has been developed in the annual design and build workshop, Studio in the Woods. The aim is to reveal something particular to a place that only becomes visible through the act of measuring and making. Three meaningful carves are removed from the grid to register contextual shadows at the sides and to capture sunlight between 1 pm and 4 pm throughout the year at its centre. Sunlight and shadow volumes are generated through on-site and computational analysis.
